Publication Name Assessment of Mode II Fracture Toughness of Concrete Containing Waste Materials
Publication DescriptionQuantities of waste materials as rubber and glass have been on a rise in recent years due to the increase in industrialization and the rapid improvement in the standard of living. These waste materials are not being recycled but rather abandoned, and cause an environmental pollution. Therefore, the present research has been conducted in order to study the effect of replacing 10% of fine aggregate by volume with these waste materials on the mechanical properties; namely, compressive, splitting tensile, and shear strength. A comparison between three different types of concretes; normal concrete (NC), rubberized concrete (RuC), and glass concrete (GC) were made. It was observed that replacing of 10% of sand volume by rubber or glass particles had no harmful effect on the mechanical properties. Furthermore, Mode II fracture toughness of these concretes were measured through three different specimens, namely double-edge notched prism, double notched cubic, and cracked Brazilian disc specimen.
