Publication Name ANALYSIS OF MIXED MODE FRACTURE IN CONCRETE WITH WASTE MATERIALS
Publication DescriptionThe present research has been conducted in order to study the effect of replacing 10% of fine aggregate by volume with waste materials (crumb rubber or glass cullet) on mixed mode fracture toughness including pure mode I and pure mode II using cracked brazilian disc specimens. A comparison between three different types of concretes; plain concrete (PC), rubberized concrete (RuC), and glass concrete (GC) were made. It was observed that replacing of 10% of sand volume by rubber or glass particles had no harmful effect on mixed mode fracture toughness. Maximum tangential Stress Criterion (MTS) was adopted in the present study to predict the crack initiation angle. There is an agreement between the theoretical values of crack initiation angle predicted by MTS and the experimental results of the three types of concretes.
