Department Details Branch: Engineering Department: Biomedical Engineering Department Location: H Building Introduction To The Department Staff Members The Biomedical Engineering programme is taught by (No of staff members including preparatory) highly qualified staff members. While most of them are full time employed, there is some staff members are working on part time bases as this specialization is relatively new.
Introduction
Biomedical engineering is a multidiscipline field that embodies the application of several engineering disciplines in medical and health care fields. It advances knowledge in engineering, biology and medicine, and improves human health through cross-disciplinary activities. Thus biomedical engineering program links technical fundamentals in science engineering from various disciplines and life sciences in the combination with team building, societal and ethical issues, and communication and leadership skills. Biomedical engineering may include many of the following topics: medical imaging, biomaterials, Bio-acoustical engineering fields, Tissue engineering, Artificial organs, Rehabilitation engineering, Medical optics and lasers, Cellular engineering, Man-machine interfacing, Human factors and ergonomics, and Biomechanics. The professional Biomedical Engineer requires knowledge of the engineering principles and other skills of engineering science in parallel with their application in biomedical field. These skills will be brought together in the design projects through the degree and in the senior year group project. Program Mission and Aims Program mission The mission of Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering program is to prepare innovative graduates able to interact with the challenges in diverse domains of multidisciplinary nature, locally, regionally, and internationally. He should satisfy the requirements of the society in governmental authorities and public and private sectors.
Program Aims Graduates attributes: The Biomedical Engineering program aims at providing future engineers with appropriate theoretical knowledge and technical skills to respond to professional market demands. The program also aims at preparing students for a professional or research career in biomedical which involves the development of biocompatible prostheses, various diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices ranging from clinical equipment to micro-implants, common imaging equipment and biotechnologies.
